Notice anything different around this old blog of mine? My friend Michelle helped me spruce it all up. Not only was it such a sweet gesture to ask, I was again amazed by her talents. She designed the header, even using my handwriting for "the Jacobs." I love it so much. Michelle is just an amazing person. I'm so glad to know her!!
I've been thinking for awhile now about how I can help my friends. I truly feel like they all help me, serve me, love me so wonderfully and I would like to be more of a giver rather than a taker. I'm not looking for reassurances that I have talents, etc. I just really need advice on things I can do to be a thoughtful, good friend. Any advice?

I have the same problem. Honestly, I know this might sound trite, but I try two things: praying about it and listening better. An opportunity always presents itself. I finally realized, any heartfelt help is great, even if it's something I feel like anyone could have done =)
Listen, listen, listen. Over the years I've had a couple of friends who were terrible listeners and I've since had to step back from those friendships. Everytime I was with one of them I left feeling empty and frustrated instead of respected and cared for. And most women love to talk, so a listening ear really is such a loving thing to offer.
The other thing I can think of would be to offer up childcare (even if that seems crazy while you're juggling 4 of your own!) But not in a "hey, let me know if you ever need help" sort of way, but a specific, "when is a good time this week that I could have your kids over to play" sort of way. I invited a friend's kids over once--even sent them a playdate invitation in the mail--because my friend was always so reluctant to ask for help with babysitting.

(just keep your eyes and heart open and be generous when/where you can - you can always do something, but its not always your season to be 'in a perfect world' generous. )
